RMU Replacement
Enfra was engaged by RES to urgently replace a failed Ring Main Unit (RMU) at their Emerald facility. Following client acceptance, resources were mobilised the next day, with our team completing inspection, defect assessment, and coordination of heavy equipment and rigging services for safe removal and replacement.
The works involved rectifying an RMU failure caused by a bushing defect and SF6 gas loss, managing cable interface constraints, and developing new connection drawings due to undocumented site configurations. A second RMU presenting an identical failure was identified during the works and replaced within the same mobilisation.
Both units underwent full functional and relay testing, including successful telemetry integration. These works were critical in restoring network reliability while implementing additional measures to mitigate future cable heave risks.
